Due to the baby in your womb, you might not be able to sleep in your usual position. You may feel uncomfortable the whole night trying to find the best position, so let’s get into detail of this issue.
What Makes You Uncomfortable to Sleep In Your Normal Position?
During the pregnancy, your body’s shape and size chages which can disrupt your peaceful and usual slumber.
Causes of your discomfort may include:
- Back pain
- Insomnia
- Heartburn
- Shortness of breath
- Increase in size of abdomen
Best sleeping position during pregnancy is sleep on the side. Try to sleep on the left side because it will increase the number of nutrients and blood supply to your baby through placenta. Keep your knees and legs bent and put a pillow between the legs.
You can also use SOS position with keeping a pillow under the abdomen region if you have a chronic disorder of back pain.
Women with heartburn issues during pregnancy can try to lift the upper body using a pillow along with the SOS position to sleep.
If you experience a shortness of breath during pregnancy, lying on your side along with the propped up pillows will help you a lot.
Keep rotating all these positions since you will not be able to sleep in one position through the whole night, and even if you are feeling uncomfortable, still try them on because they are beneficial for the baby.
What Sleep Positions to be Avoided During Pregnancy?
Avoid the below given sleeping positions during pregnancy since they can have an adverse effect on the development of your baby as well as on your own health.
Sleeping on stomach:
It is not preferable to lay down on your stomach since your abdomen region undergoes physical changes during pregnancy.
Sleeping on back:
Sleeping on back can be very uncomfortable since it leads to many health issues such as low blood pressure, breathing problems, pressure on the digestive system and also lead to decrease in circulaton to the heart and to your baby.
Thus, during pregnancy you have to be careful about your sleeping position as much as you are concern about your diet. Sleep on the right position and sleep tight!
